Fountain of Youth: Power of the Grace of God

Fountain of Youth: Power of the Grace of God

The power of the grace of God can renew your youth because Jesus Christ is the fountain of youth.

Throughout the pages of history, man’s thirst for the eternal fountain of youth has driven him to the limits of his existence. In his quest for eternal life man has explored every aspect of the universe from the vanishing frontiers of earth and space to the unknown regions of the mind. Thirsting for springs of living waters mankind has often become intoxicated with illusions of youth only to find a vanishing mirage.

Jesus Christ is the fountain of youth.

As elusive as man’s quest for the fountain of youth may seem to be, there is one, however, who proclaimed to have solved the mystery of eternal youth. Jesus Christ said, “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14). Again, Jesus stated, “. . . I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). The Apostle Paul, commenting on this life through Jesus Christ, wrote:

What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rom. 6:21-23)

Jesus Christ is the source of abundant life, the source of the eternal heavenly realm. He is the Fountain of Youth!

Fountain of youth is found in hearing Jesus.

Although Jesus Christ is life, far too many Christians do not experience the vitality of that life. It is as if they are standing at the fountain of life, but they have no utensil from which to drink. Thirsting for life, they settle for something far less. Lying at the root of this problem is the lack of understanding something that is fundamental to Christianity, the hearing of Jesus.

Herein lies the secret of the abundant life in Jesus Christ. It seems that the adversary of our mind will do everything within its power to keep a believer from hearing Jesus.  The hearing of Jesus, experiencing Him, will bring the believer into a relationship with God that will enable him to experience life and living. Paul penned it like this: “For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ” (Rom. 5:17). When the believer begins to listen attentively to Jesus, he moves into the realm of the life that is eternal.  He will not be adversely affected by the circumstances he encounters.

Fountain of youth is having your youth renewed as the eagle’s.

The Old Testament saint, David, knew this principle of experiencing God and living at the fountain of youth. He wrote:

Bless the Lord, 0 my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, 0 my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.  (Ps. 103.1-5)

David begins with “Bless the Lord, 0 my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” The Psalmist adds, “Bless the Lord, 0 my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” He then reveals in this psalm five great benefits from the Lord that brought praise out of his heart. Understanding these five benefits will bring praise to the heart of every believer for he realizes he is drinking at the spring of living waters, the fountain of youth.

David’s heart cry was “Bless the Lord, 0 my soul . . . who forgiveth all thine iniquities . . . .” David worshiped God because his sins were forgiven. Salvation came to David from God and it brought praise from the soul of David.

Salvation was not the only benefit, for David thanked God for his health. “Bless the Lord, 0 my soul . . . who healeth all thy diseases.” God not only places a natural healing element within every man, but He also can provide the miraculous touch of instantaneous healing. David had experienced God and God became his healer.

Why would David not praise the Lord with all his soul? God was his salvation. God was his health. God also was his protection. “Bless the Lord, 0 my soul . . . who redeemeth thy life from destruction . . . .” The word redeemeth means to save, to rescue from destruction. When danger threatens, God steps into the picture and redeems. Almighty God was David’s protection and David praised God for redeeming his life from destruction.

Is it any wonder that David’s heart cry was “Bless the Lord, 0 my soul . . . ?” God was his salvation. God was his health. God was his protection. Now, David praised God because He “. . . crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies.” God continually changed David’s personality with lovingkindness and tender mercies. David calls upon his soul to praise God for salvation, for health, for protection, and for life-changing grace. “Bless the Lord, 0 my soul . . . !”

Finally, David gives praise with affection and gratitude for prosperity. “Bless the Lord, 0 my soul . . . who satisfieth [my] mouth with good things.” God satisfies the desires of His servants, giving them the riches of salvation and transforming them to the likeness and image of His presence.

Five great benefits the servant of God receives from the Lord: salvation, health, protection, life-changing grace, and prosperity. The servant of God can, with David, cry, “Bless the Lord, 0 my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” What a marvelous privilege the believer has in God!

Who would not want to praise the Lord? God offers salvation, health, protection, life-changing grace, and prosperity for everyone who can but hear his simply cry: “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” His rest and His peace makes the believer cry out, “Bless the Lord, 0 my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.”

Fountain of youth is drinking at the spring of living waters.

Even though there are five great benefits for those who can hear Jesus, they are not the ultimate reason given in this passage of Scripture for which David praises the Lord. These five great benefits are not the end result. They are the means to the end. The end result is “. . . so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” The end result is drinking at the spring of living waters. It is experiencing the life that is eternal!

The amazing truth of God’s great benefits are that the believer’s youth is renewed and becomes, in its strength, like an eagle. God will renew the strength of every believer and they can be airborne in the heavenly realm. They can remain alive and vibrant. The vitality that produces the exciting, victorious life is given to the believer by God through salvation, health, protection, life-changing grace, and prosperity in Jesus Christ.

Praise God! What believer would not want to join with David and cry “Bless the Lord, 0 my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, 0 my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” He has found the fountain of youth.  He has found Jesus Christ whose words are spirit and they are life.  Hear Him and stay young!
