Spiritual healing is needed
only when spiritual health is not being experienced. Although
that seems obvious, there is hidden within this simple statement a powerful
truth. The solution for spiritual healing is found only in what
produces spiritual health. Spiritual healing is found only in experiencing
God.
Usually, however, we search for spiritual healing
by focusing on removing the problems of our lives. Sadly, needless
time and energy are spent on symptoms that seem to be the problem but in
reality are just the product of the problem. The symptoms are the
warning signs of a greater problem, the lack of experiencing God.
Spiritual healing is needed because the experiencing of God has been
frustrated.
In other words, like the darkness of the night that has its existence only
because light has been removed, the need for spiritual healing occurs
because spiritual health has been removed. As darkness has no power
within itself, the problems of life that produce the need for spiritual
healing are also powerless within themselves.
What seems to be the
obvious destructive behavior that produces the need for spiritual healing is in reality
only the
manifestation of the removal of spiritual health. It is the absence of
spiritual health, the absence of experiencing God, that produces the need
for spiritual healing.
Experiencing God for spiritual healing is emphasized by Jesus when He said, "Are there not
twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not,
because he seeth the light of this world. But, if a man walk in the night,
he stumbleth, because there is no light in him" (John 11:9,10). The
negative behavior of the night is not produced by the things that cause the
stumbling. The problems of the night occur because of the absence of
light.
Likewise, spiritual healing is needed when the glory of the face of God is
removed from man. When man fails to experience the glory of God, he will always become beastly (Dan. 5:20,21),
animalistic urges dominate his existence. The fight for survival,
the sexual drive to procreate, and the territorial instinct become the
driving forces of life. It is when these motivating forces get out
of control that the need for spiritual healing occurs.
Once the controlling influences
of the life of God is absent, the beast that lurks in the shadows of every
man comes forth in ever increasing increments of passion and destruction.
As the glory of God fades, the beast become more prominent. The need
for spiritual healing becomes more evident.
As with the darkness of the night, the beast
has no power within itself. What seems to be the destructive power of
fleshly, animalistic desires within man is in reality only the
manifestation of the removal of the face of God from man. It is the
absence of the glory of God that is destructive for man and produces the
need for spiritual healing.
Experiencing God, walking in the
light, is the only answer for the problems of life. Spiritual healing
occurs only by the continual experiencing of God.
