In one of the shortest letters in the New Testament,
Paul proclaimed the great truth of the Scriptures, the true believer lives
not of this world. Life, as a result of being in the Kingdom of God,
expresses itself in a uniquely godly fashion. Throughout this short letter,
Paul declared that the believer is of two worlds. He is flesh and blood
and, yet, he has the breath of God dwelling within his being.
In sending a run away slave back to his owner, Paul is not condoning slavery but
emphasizing that the essence of all life is in the spiritual realm.
Believers are simply not of this world. The circumstances of life are not
the issue. The heart and soul of all existence is experiencing the free
flow of the grace of God that carries the believer above his
circumstances. It is not the circumstances one faces but how he faces the
circumstances that governs the life of a man.
The gospel contained in Philemon will reveal the
characteristics of life on the spiritual realm.
