THESSALONIANS BIBLE STUDY
Nearness of Christ: The Thessalonians Letters
|
It is obvious to most readers of the New
Testament. There was something remarkably different in the lives of
those early believers that seems to be missing in most Christians
today. The Thessalonians Letters, the oldest record that is datable of
the New Testament times, reveal three major misconceptions prevalent in the
visible church today. Those three areas of concern deal with the basic
principles of what is true Christian living, where is the
Christian life manifested, and how does the Christian life occur.
For example, Paul raised the question to the Thessalonians, ". . . what
is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing?" His answer to his
own question reveals the mysteries of experiencing the good life: "Are
not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his
coming." Hidden in the mysteries of this statement is the what,
the where, and the how of true Christian living.
Obviously, the good life occurs "in the presence of our Lord Jesus
Christ at his coming." Where does He come? How did the
early church understand the "coming of Christ?" How do you
experience the "presence of our Lord Jesus Christ?" What did
they believe?
The gospel of Jesus Christ contained in the Thessalonians Letters has the
answer to the what, the where, and the how.
