Marks gospel is the shortest of the four gospels and
perhaps the most powerful of the gospels. More powerful in that it begins
with the actual ministry of Jesus and quickly moves through the manifestation of
the His earthly life. It is a fast paced account of the life and the power of
the Father working in and through His Son. It ends with the ultimate
example of the principle of Jesus' entire earthly life. He died that He
might be raised.
It seems that in Marks gospel there is always
given an earthly manifestation (miracle) of a previously shared heavenly
principle. For example, the death and resurrection (the miracle) of Jesus
occurred after Jesus shared the principle of His life. The manifestation
of life (the miracle) always occurs after the experiencing of the principle.
Another example, which will also illustrate the
essence of Marks gospel, is the sharing of the principle of life by Jesus
in what is now known as the parable of the sower. After sharing the
parables with its emphasis that believers must have ears that hears, Jesus said
to His disciples, being still in the ship from which He shared the parable,
"Let us pass over to the other side" (4:35). The manifestation
of a miracle was about to occur to illustrate the principle that He had just
shared in the parable of the sower.
Did His disciples have ears to hear what He had
just said? No. For in the passing over the sea to the other side a
storm arose and threatened their lives. At the peak of the seeming
disaster, the disciple rushed to the stern of the ship to wake their Master from
His sleep. Jesus, who knew they were they were going to the other side and
was able to rest during the storm, arose and rebuked the storm. Then, He
turned and rebuked the disciples. If they had ears that could have heard
what Jesus said, they would have known that they were going to the other side.
They, too, could have been resting in the midst of the storm.
The gospel of Mark consistently proclaims
the intervention of God into the lives of men by the manifestation of His
miraculous power. The gospel contained in these tapes of will, also, enable
the hearer of the Word to experience the ultimate miracle of God, Jesus
Christ.
