LIFE OF CHRIST

Session 9:
The Message of Christ: The Kingdom of God
(Students should complete "Tracing the Historical Events of the
Life of Christ" exercise on page 116 of the manual.  Also, read the
article, "Understanding the Kingdom of God," on pages 105-115)

What Did Jesus Preach?

The first words of Jesus, as he began his public ministry:

"Now . . . Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel." (Mark 1:14,15)

The last words of Jesus just before he ascended, as recorded in Acts, consisted of :

"...speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God." (Acts 1:3)

The longest message in the Scriptures is where the principles of the kingdom of God were given by Jesus.

There are 58 references to the kingdom of God in the gospel of Matthew alone.

The kingdom of God is the most dominant theme in the entire Bible.

The kingdom of God experienced by the disciples of Jesus was the basis for the radical change in their lives.

The kingdom of God would be so revolutionary to the kingdom of men that Jesus taught his disciples to pray continually:

"Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come."

Kingdom of God versus the kingdom of men:

In whom do we trust?

At any given moment, you are what you are based upon
everything you have experienced and how you have responded to those things.

As significant as a spiritual experience is, it is only a moment, how be it a powerful moment, in the overall make up of what a person is.

When life happens, a person will respond to that moment based upon who he is at that moment.

Will Christ be flowing through us at that moment, or will we be dominated by the current illusion of our mind

Is it Christ or is it you?

Paul’s admonition was: "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." (Phil. 2:5).

James stated: "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." (Phil. 2:5)

How double minded are we?

Double mindedness is to experience life as if we are coming out of two different mind sets.

For example, there are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, and 24 hours in a day-- making 86,400 seconds in a day.

Could it be possible that someone could be so double minded that their mind would change 86,400 times a day?

To the degree that Christ is not living through you (meaning
Christ is not seen) is the degree that you are living during those moments of the day.

When you are dominant, the world will see you as you are for that moment with whatever weakness that is prevalent in your life at that time.
