Understanding Temptation

The Conquering of Temptation
(Write in the correct answers from the listening process of CD
8)

Jesus was tempted in like _______________ as all men are.

Yet, as Peter stated Jesus "________  _______ sin, neither was _________ found in his mouth." (1 Pet. 2:22)

How was Jesus tempted?

Obviously, ___________ to commit adultery, homosexuality, lying, cheating or stealing.

For if he was, in his own words, he would have already ________ in ______________.

How and in what was Jesus tempted?

Again, Luke 4: "And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."

Was the temptation to be ____________ or to ____________ that hungriness?

The temptation is found in the words, "_____  ______  _____ the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread."

He is being tempted to satisfy this basic need in ____  ____ power of whom he was.

If he would have performed the miracle in the __________ of being the Son of God (which he had the capability to do), he would have __________ what it meant to be the Son of God.

How Jesus overcame the temptation to do this miracle in his own strength as the Son of God.

He _________ his life not as one who did what the Father told him to do, but he experienced life as the Father lived _____ and __________ him.

As he said, "As the living Father hath sent me ... ______  _______ by the Father." (John 6:57)

He also stated, "If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. (John 14:7-11)

Jesus overcame the temptation because "the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the ___________."

Jesus overcame the temptation because he _____________ in the Heavenly Father to live ___________ him and to __________ his life.

It is the secret for everyone to overcome temptation.

As Jesus said, again, "As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father...even [you] shall live by me.

If you are attempting to live for Jesus, you will fall to the temptation of thinking that you can, if you can only become dedicated and committed, live the life that you should be living.

Falling to that temptation, you will continually find yourself going down the wrong street--the street will come and you will enter.

The writer of Proverbs put it in these words: (7:1-5)

"My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye. Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart. Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman: That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words."

What will keep the young man from the street of the strange woman . . . which flattereth with her ___________?"

____________ and _______________ from the commandments of God.

In the light of the Word made ___________ in Jesus of Nazareth, it is Jesus that _______ you from the ______ of the strange woman.

___________ Jesus--______ him as the apple of thine eye . . . _____ him upon thy fingers . . . let him be _________ upon the table of thine heart . . . and you, too, will be kept from the ________ of the strange women . . . which flattereth with her words.

The Life of Christ is the only _________ that can keep you from even _________ to go down the wrong street.
