Ezekiel Bible Studies
The End of the Age and Its Restoration
Session 14

The final chapter. There is no better way to end the prophetic utterances of Ezekiel than with the vision of the restoration of a new city. It is a city not built with human hands and none can compare to this city of God. It contains no temple because it is the temple. In a sense, it has no walls because it is open to Jews and Gentiles, men and women, masters and slaves. It contains no judicial system because the Glory of God within the city is the judgment. It is a city where equality and fairness is the norm for living because life is above and beyond the earthly realm. It is called, "YHWH Shammah," the Lord is there.

A New Name for the City of God
(Chapter 48)

Chapter 48 YHWH Shammah

1-8 Dividing of the land among the twelve tribes

Different than the original dividing of the land (one example: the last is first) — indicates that this should be taken spiritually rather than literally.

All twelve tribes given their portion (ten tribes carried away by Assyria and the two by Babylon) — accomplished by the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Every tribe had its particular lot — living by grace, the providence of God.

9-14 The land of the priests

15-22 The city is in the midst of them

Jesus said, "Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them."

The hearts of the people of the land were brought together as they came to the city.

23-29 The borders of the tribes were shared in common

The "rim of the wheel within the wheel"

30-35 The new city

No where called "Jerusalem" nor is the land ever called "Canaan"
