Eziekiel sets forth the hope that the glory of God would return to the sanctuary. The story of the Children of Israel, from the promise given to Abraham even until today, is a story of obtaining and maintaining their promised land. Their existence is tied to the promise of God for a homeland.

The center of the life of Israel is their land. The center of their land is the city, Jerusalem. The center of their city is the temple. The center of their temple is the sanctuary, the Holy of Holies. The center of the Holy of Holies is the Glory of God. What makes Israel Israel is the manifestation of the Glory of God. They are the people of the manifestation of the Glory of God on the earth.
